Mr. G. R. Bhatia

Mr. G. R. Bhatia is the Senior Partner & Head of the Competition Law Practice with more than three decades of experience in competition and regulatory practice. A former Additional Director General of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the erstwhile Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTP Commission), he has received international training in Anti-monopoly Laws in Japan (Japan Fair Trade Commission) and in Unilateral Conduct and Cartelization (Korean Fair Trade Commission, Seoul). He was also associated with the 2007 amendments to the Competition Act.

In recognition of his deep domain expertise, Mr. Bhatia was appointed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, as an Expert on the National Committee on Competition Policy. He is also a key speaker on emerging issues, including Digital Competition Law, and has conducted a session on “Digital Competition Law” at the Ministry of Corporate Affairs as part of the National Foundation for Corporate Governance’s Education Series.

Mr. Bhatia regularly appears before the CCI, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), and the Supreme Court of India on competition matters. He has been consistently ranked as a “Leading Lawyer” (2016–2026) by leading global publications such as Legal 500, Chambers and Partners, and Benchmark Litigation.

He has been conferred the Mondaq Thought Leadership Awards in Anti-Trust | Competition Law for Spring 2023 and Autumn 2025.
